Basic for "Third-rate Detective"

For the final story telling project, I want to create an interactive fiction, which is about a detective story, but the main character that player acts is not a detective.

Mervin is a character comes from my original fantasy adventure fiction. He is a genius that invents teleportation magic, and is the only one magicion who can expertly use it. However, this young genius get confused because he spend his whole life on studying magic, but he doesn't know how to decide people to use magic in the right way. As a result, he embarks on a journey, to meet many different people and difficulty, and will finally find an answer for his quesiton at the end of journey.

I want to use Mervin as the leading man who player acts, but will change his identity to be a normal oversea student who just coming back to his hometown. I will focus on his confusion when I decide the detective story.

As same as Mervin, other main characters will come from my adventure fiction, and be changed settings to fix the modern background. I will keep some of their fantasy characteristic as exaggerated element.

The story happens in an underdeveloped city, which is Mervin (player)'s hometown. Mervin just came back from his oversea university and is temporary living with his unncle, who is the chief constable of this city. One day, Mervin goes to crime scene with his uncle, then is drawn into the case.

Mervin will meet different characters, and can choose one person as his partner. The selection of partner will decide the story line that player goes into. However, until the final story line that player can choose after they have played all other lines, they can only find out a fake murderer, this is why I name this story as "Third-rate Detective".

The reason I decide like this, is because the core of this fiction is not a detective story. Mervin escape from his confusion after university, by act as a new identity "detective". However, he finally need to step forward base on understanding himself, instead to a fake identity. As a result, the final story line which can solve the mystery, is the story line that Mervin understands himself, and face the problem as "Mervin".
